Fort Nalagarh, is in the Shivalik foothills, 300 kilometres north of Delhi and about 60 kilometres from Chandigarh.A comfortabe 5 hrs Drive from Delhi. Start early from Delhi and enjoy mouth watering paranthas at a Dhaba enroute to this Heritage marvel. Nalagarh was the capital of the 12th century kingdom of Hindoor. Raja Ajay Chand founded the kingdom.
A part of the capital was a dried up flood plain, which explains the name -'nala- garh'. The garh, or fort, was built in 1421, by Raja Bikram Chand, on a hillock about 1400 feet high. The fort was also the royal residence and overlooked the capital. The fort palace has now been converted into a luxurious Heritage Hotel. Heritage hotels make an interesting mix of the new and the old. A regal ambience, with modern amenities, and of course, steep bills!
